Zusammenfassung der Handlung:
VIBGYOR ist ein englisches Akronym, das für die sieben Farben des Regenbogens sowie das beim Sonnenaufgang erzeugte Farbspektrum steht. In sieben Akten erzählt das Stück von der Entwicklung der menschlichen Zivilisation – mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf der jüngeren Vergangenheit und insbesondere den Revolutionen im arabischen Raum – beispielhaft verdeutlicht an Ländern wie Tunesien, Ägypten, Libyen, Bahrain & Syrien. Einer der Darsteller verkörpert den ägyptischen Märtyrer Sally Zahran, andere Muammar al-Gaddafi, Baschar al-Assad und weitere Diktatoren. Ebenfalls beleuchtet wird die Rolle der Vereinten Nationen in der Weltpolitik. Erzähler in diesem Stück ist die Zeit. Die immerwährende Zeit nimmt den Zuschauer mit auf eine Reise der Menschheit und thematisiert die aktuelle Situation in der Weltpolitik und bestimmte soziale Entwicklungen in der Welt. Bühnenbild und Charakter des Stücks sind voller Symbolik – mit den sieben Farben des Regenbogens, die sich wie ein roter Faden durch das gesamte Stück ziehen. Das Stück endet mit der Hoffnung auf einen neuen Sonnenaufgang für die Menschheit.

Synopsis of the plot: VIBGYOR reflects the seven colours of the rainbow & the seven consecutive colours which forms the rise of the sun every morning. In this seven act play the journey of the human civilization has been mentioned with the special focus on the recent past of the Arab Revolutions. This play showcases the countries like Tunisia, Egypt, Libya , Bahrain & Syria.  Egyptian martyr Sally Zahran is a character in this play. So are the characters like Muammar Gaddafi, Bashar Al Assad etc. This play showcase the role of the United Nations in the international politics. Time is the main narrator of this play. The eternal time takes the audience to a journey of the mankind & eventually refers to the recent situation of the world politics & social developments. The set & the play character is symbolic & at the same time it has an imprint of the seven colours of the rainbow consequently. The play ends with the note of hope of a new sunrise for the mankind.

"Welche Magie ist es, die die Zuschauer in ihren Bann zieht? Supriyo Bandyopadhyay ist wahrlich ein Zauberkünstler, der die fünfhundert Jahre alte Geschichte der Devadasi lebendig werden lässt. Die Schauspieler entführen die Zuschauer in eine Welt zwischen Traum und Wirklichkeit. Sie wechseln mühelos zwischen indischem Tempel und deutschem Studentenzimmer und knüpfen ein Band, das in einzigartiger Weise Kulturen, Zeiten und Menschen miteinander verwebt. Die Schauspieler schlüpfen so überzeugend in ihre Rolle als Devadasi, als Priester oder König, dass die Zuschauer wie von einem Sog in die Geschichte hineingezogen werden. Debarati Guha, die in Indien Tanzunterricht genossen hat, fesselt mit ihren feinen Gesten, mit ihrer gekonnen Mimik, mit dem intensiven Ausdruck ihrer Augen. Sie lässt die Zuschauer mit hoffen und bangen, lieben und leiden.

Wie schon im letzten Jahr mit „The Press Conference“ nutzt die Plotpourri Theatre Group auch jetzt wieder die Bühne, um auf ein weithin ignoriertes gesellschaftliches Problem hinzuweisen. Ihr geht es darum, die Menschen auf eindrucksvolle Weise für das Schicksal der Devadasis zu sensibilisieren, denn dies ist keineswegs Geschichte: Auch heute leben und leiden hunderttausende von Frauen in Indien als Devadasis. Surpiyo und sein Team geben vielen von ihnen – gemeinsam mit der Andheri Hilfe Bonn – Hoffnung auf ein Leben in Würde. Das ist sozial engagiertes Theater bester Klasse!"

"What is this magic, fascinating the audience? Supriyo Bandyopadhyay is nothing less than a magician who makes the 500-year-old story of a devadasi come alive. The actors take the audience on a journey, to a world betwen dream and reality. They easily switch from Indian temple to German student's room and connect cultures, eras and human beings in a unique way. They take up their roles as devadasi, priest or king with such credibility, that the audience is literally dragged into the story. Debarati Guha, professionally trained in Indian dances, captures the audience's attention with her subtle gestures, her mimic art and the intense expression in her eyes. She lets the viewer share her hopes and fears, her love and suffering.

Like in last year's performance „The Press Conference“, Plotpourri Theatre Group takes the stage in order to raise awareness on a widely ignored social problem. Using their impressive skills, the group wants to sensitize their viewers for the fate of the devadasis, which is far more than a historical fact: up to the present day, hundreds of thousands of women live and suffer as devadasis in India. Supriyo and his team together with Andheri-Hilfe Bonn give hope to many of them – hope for a life with dignity. This is socially engaged theatre at its best!"

Devadasi - Zusammenfassung / Synposis

Was enthüllt der Traum? Was verbirgt die Nacht? Zwei junge Frauen, die
etwas verbindet.
What does the dream reveal? What is hidden in the night? Two young
women who are connected to each other

Was die eine nur ahnt, ist für die andere schmerzliche Realität. Denn ihre
Stellung ist herausgehoben, aber in dieser Stellung ist sie ohne Schutz.
Am Tag vollführt sie den Tanz zu Ehren des Gottes, dem ihr Leben geweiht
wurde. In der Nacht verändert sich alles für die beiden Frauen. Die eine
findet etwas, die andere verliert etwas – sich selbst.
One of them has a vague perception of what is the painful reality for the
other. Because her position is special, but in this position she is without
shelter. In the daytime she performs the dance to honour the God, to
whom her life was dedicated. At night, something changes for both
women. One finds something, the other one loses something – herself.
